Your website shows a bare link when shared to Facebook or WhatsApp

Text your website to yourself on WhatsApp and look at what appears. A proper preview — photo, title, one-line description — or just a naked blue link?

That preview is controlled by Open Graph (og:) tags. Without them, every share of your site by a happy customer arrives looking like spam.

Why it costs you customers

Local businesses live on word of mouth, and in 2026 word of mouth is someone dropping your link into a group chat. The preview card is what makes the whole group tap it.

You already paid for the photo and the tagline; the tags just make sure Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and iMessage actually use them.

Check it in 30 seconds

Share your link to yourself in WhatsApp or Messenger and see what renders.

Our free check looks for og:title and og:description on your homepage.

How to fix it

The three tags that matter

<meta property="og:title" …>, <meta property="og:description" …>, and <meta property="og:image" …> — the image should be about 1200×630px, a real photo of your place or work.

Platforms

Wix and Squarespace expose "social share image" in page settings. WordPress SEO plugins (Yoast/RankMath) have a Social tab per page. Set it once for the homepage, then for your top pages.

Seeing stale previews?

Facebook caches previews. After fixing the tags, paste your URL into Facebook's Sharing Debugger and hit "Scrape Again" to refresh it.

From our own site checks

Choose the share image like a stranger, not an owner: your logo means nothing to someone who has never heard of you, but a wood-fired pizza coming out of the oven needs no explanation. Logo in the corner, product in the frame.
