Ten supplier names from public recalls. What China's records showed.

Each example starts with the Chinese maker named in a public product recall. We looked that name up in China's company records and wrote down what came back. No buyer asked for these checks. We leave out company names, codes and recall numbers.

RECALL EXAMPLES / QUERIED 2026-09-24 AND 26

Why start from recalls?

A recall notice is one of the few public papers that names the importer and the Chinese maker side by side. That makes it a fair test. It shows what a buyer would find if they checked the name on their own contract. For the counts across 310 US recall names, read our recall name lookup study.

01 · The name matched a lighting maker

Rechargeable LED mirror · Guangdong · recall April 2023 · queried 26 September 2026

Records showed. The English name on the recall matched the registered English name exactly. Making lighting is the first item in its business scope. It had 100 to 499 staff on social insurance. It has been a registered exporter since 2015. The platform returned no penalty, abnormal-operation or serious-violation listing.

What to ask. This is the good case. Keep the 18-character code with your purchase records.

Cannot prove. A clean record does not show the recall fault was fixed. Only testing and the maker's corrective-action file can show that.

02 · A lighting maker under another English name

LED wall light · Guangdong · recall April 2024 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. No company used the recall's English name. The company that fits makes light fixtures. That is the first item in its scope. It has run since 2004 and exported since 2014. It had fewer than 50 staff on social insurance. Its registered English name differs from the one on the recall.

What to ask. Several lighting firms share the same romanised word in their names. Ask for the Chinese legal name and the code on the invoice.

Cannot prove. A matching scope says what the company may do. It does not show which site made your batch.

03 · A real factory, licensed mainly for car parts

Child playpen · Zhejiang · recall June 2022 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. The name matched. It had 50 to 99 staff on social insurance. Its capital was fully paid in. It has been a registered exporter since 2018. Most of its business scope covers car accessories and auto parts. The items that fit a playpen are industrial textiles, plastics and metal frames.

What to ask. Ask which of its lines makes your product. Ask for a test report that names this company.

Cannot prove. A scope that fits loosely is common and legal. It does not show that the work was not passed to another workshop.

04 · The "maker" was a trading company

Children's sleepwear · Jiangsu · recall June 2026 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. The company named as maker is filed under wholesale. Its scope covers import, export and selling clothing and textiles. No manufacturing is listed. It had fewer than 10 staff on social insurance. Less than half of its registered capital was paid in.

What to ask. For a fire-safety recall, the fabric and the sewing plant matter most. Ask the trader to name that factory.

Cannot prove. Many good products come through traders. The record says nothing about this trader's service.

05 · Two lead recalls, one large sourcing company

Child fishing rods · Zhejiang · recalls April 2023 and June 2025 · queried 26 September 2026

Records showed. Both recalls name the same maker. Its registered English name matched. It had 100 to 499 staff on social insurance. It is filed under wholesale. Its scope covers export agency and selling sporting goods. No manufacturing is listed.

What to ask. Two lead findings two years apart point to the same hidden step. Ask the agent which factory makes the rods, and test that factory's parts.

Cannot prove. Sourcing agents are normally filed this way. The record does not fault the agent.

06 · The supplier name was a trademark

Infant hat · Zhejiang · recall December 2023 · queried 26 September 2026

Records showed. No company is registered under the recall's name. The word does appear as a trademark. Its owner is a trading company with 50 to 99 staff on social insurance. Baby goods and hats are in its scope as things it sells. Making them is not.

What to ask. A brand on a label is not a legal seller. Match the company on your order to the one that took your money.

Cannot prove. The trademark link does not prove this trader supplied the hat. Only the order or invoice can show that.

07 · No company under that English name

Child necklaces · Zhejiang · recall April 2023 · queried 26 September 2026

Records showed. Three spellings of the English name returned no company. The recall gives a town known for small jewellery firms.

What to ask. Ask for the business licence. The Chinese name and code on it are the only way to find the firm.

Cannot prove. A miss does not mean the supplier is fake. Small firms often trade under an informal English name.

08 · No match, but one possible local maker

Portable fire pot · Anhui · recall February 2026 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. No company used the recall's English name. One company in the same city lists fireplaces and heaters in its scope. Its Chinese name could be loosely translated into something close to the recall name.

What to ask. A close guess is still a guess. Match the code on your contract before you reorder.

Cannot prove. We did not confirm this company made the product. We state only that it could fit.

09 · A Hong Kong company, not a mainland one

Smart plug · recall named a Guangdong city · recall September 2023 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. The name carried a mainland city. The only match was a company registered in Hong Kong. It has no 18-character mainland code. Mainland records such as scope, staff and export filing do not exist for it.

What to ask. Hong Kong firms often act for a factory across the border. Ask for that factory's mainland name and code.

Cannot prove. A Hong Kong seller is normal. It does not tell you who made the goods.

10 · The company had closed years earlier

Ceramic plates · Guangdong · recall March 2024 · queried 24 September 2026

Records showed. One company used the recall's English name. It was deregistered in mid-2019, about five years before the recall. Its filed business was design, packing and sales of housewares. Making them was not listed.

What to ask. Either a closed company's name was still in use, or a new business took it over. Your invoices should show which. Check the code before any reorder.

Cannot prove. The record cannot say who made the plates or who was paid.

What these examples do and do not prove

They show the kinds of answer a record check gives, using names anyone can find. They are not customer orders. No buyer's result, saving or decision is claimed here. A record check cannot test goods, visit a site or confirm who holds a bank account. Read what registry checks cannot prove.

Want the same check on your own supplier? Build a report and see the price before you order. Your first paid report is refundable within 14 days of delivery, once per buyer.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions readers ask at this point

Are these real customers?
No. We picked names from public recall notices and checked them ourselves. No buyer ordered these checks.
Why hide the company names?
The point is the pattern a buyer will meet. Naming firms next to a recall could read as blame. The records alone do not support blame.
Does a trading company mean a bad supplier?
No. It means the factory is someone else. Ask for that factory's name before you pay a deposit.

How we checked

Each maker name on a Health Canada recall notice was searched on a licensed Chinese registry platform. Matching records and customs filings were then read. Last date marked for the checks: 26 September 2026. Use the date shown with each finding. A page update does not mean all checks were run again.

Use the source links. Check the dates and limits stated for each finding.
